Piggy Nero are (left to right) Jamie Glassman, Clare Thomson & Mat Baynton. Cal McCrystal has directed & co-written all of Piggy Nero's work.

Clare Thomson and Mat Baynton met in 2002 at a workshop given by Mick Barnfather. After bumping in to each other time and again they decided to start a company and once Cal McCrystal had agreed to direct their first show, there was no turning back. They didn't have a name so they settled on the first one that came, 'Piggy Nero'.

Having scratched an early version of The Bubonic Play in September 2004, Mat and Clare went off to play the cow in Cal's Newbury Panto 'Jack & The Beanstalk'. Jamie Glassman joined the company in the new year to play George of Ponsonby. The Bubonic Play was a hit with audiences and critics at the Edinburgh Fringe 2005 and subsequently toured, including a successful run at the Adelaide Fringe Festival at the invitation of Holden Street Theatres.

Their second show Hello Dalai was created in spring 2006 and was a sellout at the Edinburgh Fringe that year, picking up some great reviews and a Mervyn Stutter Spirit of the Fringe award. Hello Dalai will be on tour in February and May 2007.

"There's a grace and cleverness to every detail of the production that can only come from tight union of director and cast, and a constant eye for the potential comedy of each moment."
