Mathew Baynton

Trained with Philippe Gaulier after graduating from Rose Bruford School of Speech & Drama. He worked as Cal McCrystal’s assistant on Spymonkey’s Cooped at the BAC and Population:3’s Gladiatrix. He made his professional debut in Cal's production of Joe Orton's Loot at the Derby Playhouse. He has also appeared in Cal's pantos at the Newbury Corn Exchange, in 2005 as an ugly sister in Cinderella, in 2006 he gave Newbury his Dick. Mat can be seen later this year in an episode of Roman's Empire, a new comedy series on BBC2, Learners, a one-off comedy-drama by Jessica Stevenson (also BBC) and in this music video for Listening Man by the Bees...

Mat directed Richard Thomson in his one-man show Rebus McTaggart, a sellout at the Edinburgh Fringe 2006 (on tour in spring 2007). They are now devising a follow-up show, Rebus McTaggart: CrimeWarrior, for Edinburgh Fringe 2007 as well as developing the idea as a radio series.

Mat also likes to dabble in the world of music and plays in a band, Special Benny, as well as doing musical things for Piggy Nero.
